Grand Theft Auto – Chinatown Wars- DS

Hey guys and gals, Cool shiters and gamers all… As many of you will know up until pretty recently i was a bit of a luddite when it came to next-gen gaming, i had no Boxes of X, be they normal or 360. I had no Stations to Play upon, one, two or three, and never once had i been able to Wii in public or private. It was a dark time indeed. But the system that got me through those dark days was my little handheld pocket gamer the Nintendo DS. It reminded me so joyfully of the old dual-screen Game and watch systems, every game was Donkey Kong Junior to me… It wasn’t hugely powerful, it was a bit kiddy at times. Heck it wasn’t even very cool (i still have one of the first DS’ not the sexy lites’ and sure as hell not one of the DSi’s) but damn if it wasn’t fun!

Now one of the games which has always been just out of reach to us DS aficianados has been the Grand Theft Auto series. Too adult, too complicated, too tech heavy, but not any more!

The Grand Theft universe comes to the DS and looks like a lot of fun! Keeping the feel of the big brother games but going back to the series’ top-down gameplay roots it certainly looks like a barrel of giggles. As is so common with these DS translations they have added elements to use the touchscreen to better advantage too as the following clip shows.

Who knows what it will all end up like, but hey, it looks like a good attempt! What do you think? should we let the DS go and move entirely onto big shiney next gen systems? Or is there something to be said for the pocket games system? Now i have a 360 i must admit i don’t play the DS as much… but do you?

I haven’t played my DS in months but this game will definitely get me dust it off. I’m a huge fan of the GTA games.
