V – The Remake Trailer

In 1983 when i was just 5 years old a TV miniseries aired on our screens and i’m pretty sure my parents just looked and rolled their eyes, knowing that their loving son was about to go through another few months, possibly years of sleepless nights and waking terrors. Even at that young age i was heavily into Sci-Fi, with Doctor Who’s Davros already providing more than a few reasons to sneak into Mum and Dad’s bed in the wee small hours of the night. Why in gods name they let me watch “V” i will never know.

V starts out interestingly enough, a bunch of alien ships arrive and the folks contained therein seem nice and do lovely things. They have good special effects…. all is fine. But then everything gets all dark and nasty and we find out that the Visitors are bad and that worse than anything… THEY ARE FREAKING LIZARDS!!!!!

The first time someone’s skin came off and there was lizard skin underneath was all that little 5 year old me needed to create an entire world of terror and fear in his subconscious. By the time the series rolled around a year or so later, i was so scared that the mere image of the red V was enough to make me quiver. And once a week the TV that was usually my friend became something to be hidden away from and terrified of even hearing. The Music would be enough to ensure bad dreams let alone the screams of some woman having her alien/human hybrid baby!!!! It is important to note that at this time in Tasmania we only had 2 TV channels as such it was pretty much ALL THERE WAS….

And now ABC is gunning to do it all again! YOU PACK OF BASTARDS!!!!!!

It may be 26 years later but the scars remain. That frigging Red V is back and so are the rubber skinned bastards who want to eat our rodents! This time lead by the gorgeous and perpetually not-at-Supanova, Morena Baccarin. Here’s the trailer. DAMN YOU ABC! I want my childhood back!

    It looks promising, I’ll give it that. The thing that most sticks in my mind was in the original series, the first time you see Diana eating a wee mouse. She lifts it over her head, lowers it to her mouth, her chin dislodges like a snake, drops it in, and then turns to camera as though nothing happened!!!! Wow, I used to love that show… Could never buy Freddy Krueger as a goodie though…
