Lollipop Chainsaw – Red-Band Game Trailer

Well apparently we have given up on good taste and gender balanced gaming entirely. Somewhere somehow a bunch of  game creators threw up their hands and said “screw it, lets go for broke, lets be as sexist, misogynistic and ridiculous as we can be.”  These guys then made this game.  Is it good?  God only knows.  It looks ridiculous and totally silly.

They’ve also made the questionable decision of asking the crowd to vote on who the model should be for their lead character. So yes its another sexist search for the best blonde, bubbly, booby, chainsaw wielding cheerleader around.  Classy folks…really classy. That said, this is a funny damn trailer. James Gunn is heavily involved in this and you can kinda tell. check it out!

SynopsisLollipop Chainsaw is the ‘un-deadly’ story of sweet and killer zombie hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her wickedly awesome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill the chainsaw wielding cheerleader.

  1. Dude, chill the fuck out. It’s a cheerleader with a chainsaw battling zombies.

    THIS IS EXCELLENT.

Misogyny is hatred of women, by the way. Is it misogynistic because a girl is depicted as defending herself with a heavy power tool?

Would it be more acceptable if it was a ripped male?

No, that would be SEXIST against males!

    Wouldn’t it?

I know what mysogyny means Ratters…. i simply state that the game is ridiculous, and its attitude to female empowerment is not exactly enlightened. yes, she’s kicking the head of her beheaded boyfriend around, but she’s depicted as mentally a bit dull and seemingly only interested in having babies.

she seemed like a stereotypical image of every cheerleader who ever turned down a guy for a date, turned into a chainsaw wielding sex goddess, who’s sol purpose is to give us all innumerable up-skirt shots and fan service.

don’t get me worng there is another part of me that thinks this is fucking hilarious and is a post modern and self aware as Buffy was in its initial incarnation. but there is something so tawdry about the hyper sexualization of the thing that it feels dirty.

It aint doing anything for the cause of “vydja games aint just for the boys” is all i’m saying.

  3. I think it’s more enlightened these days to accept that, for every boy who enjoys playing a hyper-sexualised representation of masculinity such as Batman, for example… there is a girl who enjoys it as well.

Similarly, for every boy who enjoys a game like Lollypop Chainsaw, there is more than likely going to be a girl who is similarly able to enjoy the game on its own terms without worrying about it as being representational of some kind of patriarchal agenda, or being anti-feminist or whatever.
