Torchwood: Children of Earth Trailer

2009 is turning out to be a funny old year for british Sci-fi, what with Doctor Hho going on a bit of a hiatus, Red Dwarf coming back for another bite at the pie and now this. Torchwood is not doing a standard 13 episode season this year, but doing a five night, five part special called “Children of Earth”, What Next? Will we see The Sarah Jane Adventures Epic movie event? Or even the shock return of “The Tripods”? Not likely.

Torchwood however looks to have found it’s feet again after last season’s hit and miss stucture. This looks more like what it was originally intended to be; Adult Sci-fi. Or as i like to think of it “shows for the Doctor Who fans who have growed up”

Wikipedia has this to say on the plot:

The serial is about a government who struck a deal in the 1960s with an alien race and the consequences of it – something that will affect all the children on Earth. It features CGI aliens called The 456 who are introduced in the third episode. The story further establishes the relationship between Jack and Ianto and how Gwen and Rhys cope with married life around Torchwood “as Rhys becomes almost the fourth member of the team.”

Personally i like the look of it, and i think its brilliant that this wil be airing almost concurrently on the US BBC America as well as in the UK. Now if only we could get it down under as well… post your thoughts as you have them!

Peter Capaldi! And who else? The one fellow makes me think of Roy Thinnes, but it can’t be, can it? And there was one other…. Time to go back and look at it again!

looks like quite the cast doesn’t it? though a distinct lack of Martha Jones, and Mickey Smith thus far… i don’t really care all i know is that it looks cool and kinda dark and creepy. i love anything where all the kids are scary and “village of the damned” like….

I think that Chocky needs to come back!

Yay for Torchwood. I do enjoy this show, even more than the latest Dr Who efforts.

Looks great, but to know that this is probably going to be the last series of it leaves a feeling of bitter sweetness in my mouth. I actually really liked Torchwood, but then again it had enough action to hold my brother’s attention, where Doctor Who was too boring. At least they get to go out with a bang.

I loved Dr who my whole life, my dad would walk down the road and every houses TV would be blarring “I Obey.” Darleks were really well done waring against the Cybermen by this new series. Something we can all thank them for. Alien nasties brought to life are a great imagination boost. Dr who always made up for what it could not achieve with funding by using excellent script writers.
The new Dr Who novels are great too. I love sci-fi writing and have written my own novel called Doom Of The Shem, it is an alien invasion story.

i do beleive that got a review here a while back didn’t it? ahem…

SCHILL!!!! SCHILL AS YOU HAVE NEVER SCHILLED BEFORE! LOL

kidding, i think Doctor Who has done a lot for opening minds and expanding horizons. i’m just glad someone had the foresight to expand the universe to adult areas as well as kids stuff.

I definitely will say it does raise the bar for science fiction, too bad there are still a lot of people in America who think it is crap. I think Torchwood has a place in the universe and even though I like Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane adventures, it is easier to introduce my friends to Torchwood than it is to introduce them to Doctor Who or the Sarah Jane adventures.

  7. Jon Hammer Genuwine Jon Hammer says:

Sorry, correction the above statement, when I said, “I definitely will say it does raise the bar for science fiction…” I was referring to Doctor Who, which I think is much more of a bar raiser than Torchwood.

Sorry, correction to the above statement, when I mentioned raising the bar for science fiction I was referring to Doctor Who.

Though, by the looks of it, with some of the fans who are “friends of dorothy” (as one canuck called it), Cap’n Jack might be raising a few bars himself. ahem.

i think Doctor Who has done a great deal for Sci-fi, and the spinoffs are LONG overdue.

      • Wendy Comeau Wendy Comeau says:

The spinoffs may be long overdue, but while I’ve been a Doctor Who fan for…25 years? I’m just as glad that ‘K-9 and Company’ didn’t go anywhere. I tried to watch it recently, and just couldn’t do it.
