Batman: Arkham Asylum Trailer
Confusing us all with their ability to have multiple versions of their main earning characters floating around at once, Warner Brothers and DC comics have partnered with Eidos and Rocksteady to create a Batman game that has precisely NOTHING to do with their biggest earning movie ever; The Dark Knight. Bucking the gaming trend of releasing a mediocre film-adaptation of the cinematic Tour de Force, Warners have taken the character of Batman and re-imagined him yet again. This time they have set the game in his most iconic location and the home some of his greatest foes: Arkham Asylum. They have managed to keep fans onside however by the casting of two of the greatest names associated with the history of Batman. Arkham Asylum features the return of Mark Hamill voicing the “Clown prince of Crime” as well as his traditional sparring partner Kevin Conroy as Batman.
Conroy and Hamill provided the voices for the two characters throught the entire run of Batman: The Animated Series, as well as Justice League, Batman Beyond and numerous other animated movies. Conroy recently provided the voice for Batman: Gotham Knight the anime inspired prequel to The Dark Knight.

The game will have a more closed gameplay atmosphere, similar to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Paul Dini’s story is a style reminiscent of the depth and twists of Bioshock. Gameplay places just as much focus on Batman’s role as a detective as his combat prowess. Most of the game is played through an over-the-shoulder, third person perspective, similar to that of Resident Evil 4.[1] It has been hinted that certain villains might be playable at some point in the game although this may be as an unlockable element after completing the game.[2] Arkham was chosen as a location because of its limitations including the fact that it’s located on an island. Arkham will be a persistent location that the player will be able to freely roam, including an area that serves as Batman’s secret on-site Bat Cave.
Personally i think the style we’re seeing and the use of the existing voice cast is doing great things for this game. It just looks cool! The characters are looking iconic and memorable, the locations seem detailed and perfect for batman-like sneaking around. With any luck the Paul Dini storyline will keep us entertained as well! Fingers crossed! Share your thoughts on Batman in gaming and the lack of a Dark Knight game?

If this isn’t just a combat game, but one with story then I think I am sold.
