Waaaaay back in 2003 two brothers from Queensland opened up a can of kick-ass so righteous and powerful the internet quaked in its boots…. Or not. The Spierig brothers’ first feature film Undead was a moderately successful cult film. It won an audience of zombie lovers over with its surprisingly good special effects, vaguely amusing dialogue and some interesting uses of shotguns and aliens. It was made for about a million bucks Australian and took a long time to put together as it was mostly edited and all the CGI done on home computers. We watched it ages ago but have never reviewed it. (as far as i can tell)

Six years on and finally we get a follow up film from the makers; those same two brothers from Queensland, and wait for it… this one’s about undead too! Vampires to be more specific, but before you discount the film as being more “Outback Aussie Malarky” WATCH THIS TRAILER

[See post to watch Flash video]

Gone is the Aussie setting, and apparently most of the silliness and camp. This looks like the film Blade 3 could and should have been! I Love the look of it, the style and sofistication not to mention the A-list cast. Willem Dafoe looks great in there as the Vamp hunter and “man with the crossbows.” While Ethan Hawke and Sam Neil look great and creepy.

With vampires becoming a bigger and bigger part of pop culture thanks to Twilight and True Blood its SO refreshing to see a take on them that is unusual. I can’t wait to watch this film and i congratulate the Spierig Brothers on doing something very hard indeed: Following up on a cult hit.

What do you think? Will this film suck? Or will it be a bloody good time?

sorry.
