Viktor Navorski, a man from an Eastern European country arrives in New York but after he left his country; war broke out and because of that Navorski is a man without a country that the U.S. can recognize, thus he is denied entrance to the U.S. However, he also can’t be deported so he is told by the Security Manager that he has to remain in the airport until his status can be fixed. And also Navorski doesn’t speak English well, so noone can talk to him and he can’t talk to anyone. But he somehow adapts and sets up residence in the airport, which makes the man who placed him there unhappy cause, it seems he is line for a promotion but Navroski’s presence might complicate that. So he tries to get Navorski to leave but Navorski remains where he is. Navorski makes friends with some of the people who work in the airport and is attracted to a flight attendant he runs into whenever she comes in.
My Impressions
This is a no brainer nice film. I found it just warm, conforting and nothing new but in a good way. This is a film you need when a light bit of comedy and non-thinking environment is required. Tom Hanks does what he does best in this film and that is being a person. He isn’t a action hero, or a comedic genius, just a guy living life in different ways. In this role, he plays a different racial character that I didn’t think would work for him. That being said I can’t tell if his accent of language skill in russian or whatever it is good or not, but for us english speakers, it was good. I found that Catherine Zeta-jone’s character not to be annoying, mainly because she had little screen time. I also found the other unknown actors playing the airport staff were fairly good. Stephen Spielsbeigh (spelling) needs to take this film and move up from it. I have found his big budget films of late to be very medioaker, but though this film isn’t great, it’s something he could start to build on again. I miss the days that everytime a film with his name was asciossated it was considered gold.
Summary
Not a film that will win awards, but nice, warm and something for a quite rainy day. So this to your mum to give her a smile.

My thoughts: “Quaint”. A nice easy watch and good for a laugh. He still seems like Forest Gump in many scenes.
