A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures – Movie Review

Chris Waitt is a lonely sod in London who occasionally gets of his arse to make films. This documentary is about Chris pointing the camera back on his own history as a shithouse boyfriend to examine why he always gets dumped.

Let me just come straight with it, this film is painful. You know that someone who attempts to interview his ex-girlfriends as to why they left him (and sometimes hate him) is fraught with cringe-worthy moments. The journey starts with Chris telling us the audience of the idea that he has sold to a producer to make the film. This is great except that he has no idea where to start or how to do it. Cold-calling his ex’s leads to a dead end as they don’t want to talk to him. He then starts turning up to their flats with a documentary crew and gets more than one door slammed in his face. Losing hope of the project Chris visits his parents and find out that sometimes having a great mum can do wonders when contacting people. We sit through a series of interviews where Chris gets some home truths delivered to him, which initially he doesn’t accept. He is still making excuses but the pattern is clear. Chris is a prick and too self-centred to hold down a relationship. He then tries to find a new girlfriend and goes on a series of dates which end just as badly. The importance of the dates is out-weighed by the idea of getting intercourse though, as over this journey we discover Chris is impotent. This revelation factors into not just his history but also his future.

A Complete History of My Sexual Failures

There are some physically painful moments which are both brilliant to laugh at, but also completely depressing. It is sad that Chris needed to put himself in such positions only to realise that he needed to listen to what others where telling him. The documentary is fairly honest and doesn’t beat around the bush which I must commend it for. This is a very personal journey that is great for us to laugh at, though it could also make you have a think about what you personally have done in the past.

A Complete History of My Sexual Failures

I recommend the film if you need a laugh and are comfortable at laughing at someone else’s expense. The only reason I could do it in this instance, is that Chris directed and edited the film so he knows that we will laugh at his misfortune. The ending is uplifting and you won’t leave completely depressed. I give it a cool for something a little different.
