You made good mention of subtitling movies with thick accents.

At some point, not long after it came out, a cousin of mine rented a print of "Mad Max" and held a public showing in a bar in my home town. Of course I had seen the film before and wanted to see it.

I recall in great detail the Australian accents, and had no trouble understanding them, as, being from Newfoundland, we got a considerable amount of Saturday Morning programming from the UK and other countries, and not all from the US as things are now. So understanding the thickest accents was no problem for us.

Not to mention Newfoundland has its own very very thick accents, so we adapted an ear for understanding what others are saying.

But now spring forward a number of years, and suddenly "Mad Max" is available on VHS tape and (yes) VideoDisc, an RCA format that didn't last much longer than a few years - it actually used a physical needle to read a grooved record disc - and all the voices were dubbed into an American English accent.

Damn, it was ruined!

Watching "Mad Max" now, it's painful to listen to. Why the hell didn't they just leave it alone?

I think I'm the only person who doesn't like Snatch. I've tried watching it three times so far. It was okay...but no Lock Stock. Have you guys seen Vinnie in Survive Style 5+?
