  1. Marlowe Says:

About films I completely mis-read. I have two.

“Vanilla Sky” - I went in thinking it to be a normal film, and when we finally discovered what it was about, I thought… wow. I didn’t see that coming.

The other is “Dark City” in which I was absolutely convinced the hero was trapped in an experimental sleep state in which his dreams changed the city, and he was trapped in sleep and couldn’t get out.

It was alluded to throughout the film that this was a scientific experiment, from the mice in the maze to the guy who threw himself in front of a train because he had discovered the only way out - death. Death would wake him up in the real world, and that was the only way to get out of Dark City.

Everything from the bizarre “Gentlemen-like” villains, to the shifting buildings indicated a lucid dream state.

When I found what was going on, I nearly got up from my chair and walked out I was so damn disappointed. My theory of the film was far more compelling than what they ended up doing with it, so I was disgusted with it.

    Marlowe.
