  1. Henrik Says:

Just started listening, “Kopps” is pronounced… “cops”! It’s just the swenglish spelling, if you get my meaning. It means nothing in swedish, so it’s really just a pisstake.

  2. Henrik Says:

    Right, so comments:

Kopps: Haven’t seen it, as I walked out halfway through “Jalla Jalla” for being completely predictable - plus it was cold (it was an outdoor screening). I can understand some people finding it a bit slow, swedish movies generally are promoted as “relationship comedies” which in actuality translated as “human drama”. Josef Fares’ films (brother of Fares Fares) are very different from your average swedish film, so don’t take these films as a general pointer on the quality of our productions. We also make a shitload of police “thrillers” (read: dramas) based on hugely successful neverending book series.

Ghostbusters: The first ever record I bought with my own money was the Ghostbusters 12″. When it opened here I was 10 years old and me and two mates went to see it. It was rated 11, but somehow we got in anyway. It scared the living shit out of us (the ghost in the library, the arms coming out of the armchair) and one mate desperately wanted to leave. We just said “hell no, we PAID for this!” and when it was over we had had one of the best cinema experiences ever.

Batman Begins: Opens in Sweden in 7 weeks. *snore*

  3. chu Says:

…just started to listen to the podcast…i hate to nit-pick…but the volume levels of the clips i’m still having trouble hearing…I have to turn my speakers down for the intro, up to hear the clips and then turn them down when you guys talk!

nice job on getting a chick on your couch ratboi! [*expecting smutty comment in return*]

  4. Bruce Says:

Thats strange, the levels and my hearing make the clips louder than the vocals. Also remember that the clips are more dynamic than our vocals, and they come from a range of different material. I’ll look into it, but bearing someone giving me a nice external compressor and a heap more time.. I don’t think I can make it hugely different. I’ll try thou.

  5. xabian Says:

I say edit and you go for 1.13+ MOTHERFUCKERS….

On the upside… GO QUINNY! About time someone upstaged the Rat… and you sure did… Woop!

I very much dug BB, pretty much for all the reasons you guys listed…

Except for the take on the action…

“I wanna see all that ninja shit…”

I think Nolan made those decisions based on the following premise: If you can see it, it’s *not* ninja.

I think this is particularly important in regard to Batman, as he is not a superhero… as Mr Miyagi says… “best defense is no be there”

    I think I’ve misquoted this… let the flaming begin…

NB… who else thinks the director of FF took a look at Hellboy and thought, ‘Hey, I could do that!’….. WRONG!

  6. Q-Dog Says:

    me upstage someone… never.

will write more soon, but for now. its home time. but all of you must see batman begins. its an order. even you henrik. i know you are thinking its looking a bit of a snoozer, but i think everyone will enjoy this one.

and xabian, i do take your point about the ninja thing. i briefly studied nijitsu and its all very fast and nasty. but the cinematography was a bit poopy for my liking. too close and too blurry. you hire choreographers for a reason. i didn’t want yeun wo ping style wire fu. but i did want to see who he was hitting. and if he was avoiding, then lets see him do that too. its funny reading up on the style of the fighting he was doing. its all about takign some hits to get a better position to hit back. an unusual choice, but makes sense with the armour.

as to the time… well so long as it was entertaining. i don’t think there wa as much digression this time was there? hmm. maybe there was…

Q dog barks and goes home to snooze.

  7. Chris Says:

I’m glad we don’t edit. It gives Q-Dog more time to make a fool of himself! ;)

  8. xabian Says:

Q: Actually, you guys (and gal) were pretty much on-topic the whol eway, which is even more remarkable considering the incredible length of the cast.

Ratt: You’re just upset you didn’t come up with the show’s funniest moment… you’re the Scatman. And no, I don’t mean scat as in bebop. And I don’t mean bebop as in rocksteady. And I don’t mean rocksteady as in the DSP plug-in that might help Bruce with the levels problem.

Also rattray, I don’t think I understood the Neverending Story premise originally — we’re not trying to create a pastiche narrative, but we *are* attempting “clever clever” sample association?

    Yah? Nah?

Was it YOU who shat on my television?

  9. Chris Says:

Neverending Story is an exercise in association, yes, not an attempt to create an ongoing narrative without end. Go to the segment page to see to see it in stark black, white, and blue.

If I shit on anyone’s TV, it will be cool. Cool shite, on your tube. From my ass.

  10. chewie Says:

you guys make my mondays bearable…

Cool Shite is the rockinist review show evah!… if it was up to me, i wish it was, i’d give youz a TV show…

I can’t wait for you to do a segment on Aqua Teen Hunger Force (part of adult swim)… I think you’s love it…

on another note, I must apologise profusely as I would love to vote for you on PC ally, but the web access I have has it listed as a restricted site… totally twatty . com

thanks for the batman begins review, sounds great… gonna go home and watch ghostbusters again… You also cleared something up for me, I got sent a clip on email ages back with some cop guy shooting a gun from his pants and righteously fukkn up some villains… now I finally know where it’s from… yaaaaaaaay… gonna go track kopps down…

thanks again, can’t wait for the next one!

  11. jeffblackmon Says:

    Hey! Congrats, guys!

Just checked Podcast Alley and see that you are at #34, just below the KnitCast!

Just got to figure out someway to get those knitters listening, so you can jump ahead. Got any knitting movies in the review queue?

  12. Jaitu Says:

Ghostbusters is class. I love that movie and it would not have been the same without Bill Murray. I can only imagine how John Belushi would have played but I can only picture him saying “How much for the women?”
Bill Murray has turned into a fantastic actor in my opinion. You only have to watch Rushmore or Lost In Translation for a mature performance.

I say this about a few movies but Batman Begins could actually get me back into a cinema. I think the last movie I saw in a theatre was Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Actually that’s a lie. The last film was The Ring 2 which I watched at Broadmeadows in Melbourne - and thought it very poor.

Doctor Who, slightly mixed reaction. I liked it a lot, Naomi loved it , a big-time-fan friend of mine was less impressed.

    Thanks for the shoutout. I have now gone from being a hot chick to a ho-cake to the fucking man-fucking man. I’m not certain I approve (c;
As with the Rollerball trailer this weeks outro was a case of me using the first samples that came to hand so I’m glad you liked it.

  13. Bruce Says:

if it was up to me, i wish it was, i’d give youz a TV show…

Ho yeah baby!.. imagine the shite coming though your tv straight into you visual synapes… ho the beautiful pain..

    hehe

I think once broadband becomes alot faster and bandwidth isn’t such an issue, you will be seeing more video based podcasts. There are a few out there, but it will take a while before we end up infront of a camera.

  14. Q-Dog Says:

well, with my background in filmmaking etc. i’d love to get into doing some TV style podcasting. this of course then begs the question, should people really be able to see us? as ratters said we do have some fantastic faces for radio.

however we could have a lot of fun with doing some nice reviews and using some cool effects. this is all depending on us getting a lot more money to do it. hmmm. maybe… i live in hope.

but of course the shows will get shorter… and the bullshit will get toned down i’m sure.

fuck it. lets do it anyway.

    Q dog

  15. Q-Dog Says:

oh, and i’m not sure if chewie is new,but thanks for the comments and thanks for joining us man!

and if i could i would have sex with batman begins. that movie was so perfect it was scary. ras al chul is my favourite villain. kinda… ah i love it so much.

and what do y’all think about gues couch peeps like BBB? i think it is a nce change of pace.

    Q again dog.

  16. chewie Says:

“long time listener, first time poster”

I’m seeing batman this friday… gawd dayamn, I can’t wait that longggg!

I saw steamboy last night at our Film Festival here in Durban, South Africa… and… O M G… so much amazing conceptual design it’ll make yer eyes bleed, nice to see Katsuhiro Otomo back in action…

You should check out Metropolis too, he’s got writing credits on that I think, it’s gorgeous.

  17. Q-Dog Says:

I’m sure bruce has checked out metropolis, and i bought it for a mate of min, but as yet haven’t watched it myself… looks damn cool though.

well big hi to the south africa crew. S.A is one of my favourite places in the world as i spent a couple of months there in 2001. mosty in jo-burg but some in the cape too. sadly i missed out on durban. but tis truly Kwai that you are listening in and we hope that you think we’re baia Lekker. (i’m trying this phonetically) and that dear freinds is all the africaanse i can remember.

tell me man, have you ever heard of the cirector Koos Roets?

he was the DOP on Paljas.

Ok chewie, here is your challenge. i want some south african Cool shite. and i want it bad! i miss the place! what movies can you suggest man? or TV shows? i went on set of Egoli…. was a bit disappointing really. anyway.

let me know what your thoughts are. let us all know. and thanks heaps for posting.

    Q Woofiki

  18. chewie Says:

I recently watched a great SA flick called “Gums and Noses” revolving around drugs in the advertising scene… probably one of the best saffa movies around actually… dunno how the hell you’d be able to get hold of it though, I’m not sure if it has a DVD release or not.

  19. Q-Dog Says:

its a start man, thanks heaps!

  20. chewie Says:

Hi guys… a question regarding an earlier podcast…

I watched Night Watch (Nochnoy Dozor) at our film festival last night and loved it… but after doing a bit more research, I’m a little concerned.

firstly, which version did u watch, the Fox Searchlight version with imbedded animated subtitles?… this is the one getting released in the US and is beautifully put together, it’s the one we saw…

…or did u see the original Russian DVD?

the reason I ask is because apparently the US edition has been cut and is missing some really cool shite. I hope this isn’t the case.

I also read today that they are making the 3 books into 9 movies!!! that’ll be the sheeeeet!

  21. Bruce Says:

We watched the russian dvd version. I hope they haven’t cut anything from this film as it is truely cool as is.

  22. chewie Says:

Empire magazine apparently made reference to some insane sequence on a highway, a friend of mine was talking about it ‘cos he read the article. He reckons there was a pic of a woman carrying her own dismembered arm or sumpin’… i didn’t see it in the movie, did u?… of course, he might be mistaken.

  23. atomicgeek Says:

Hey, guys, love the show, although if I take a shot every time there’s a dick joke, I am thoroughly smashed by the end. Fun!

I was really interested by your recent discussion of subversive cartoons…actually cartoons weren’t always such a kid’s medium. Check out *really* early Betty Boop cartoons or Red Hot Riding Hood as examples. There was a move in the mid-twentieth century in America to clean up movies along with everything else, so I guess that’s when The Man(tm) got the great idea to relegate animation to the kiddie realm. Or maybe Disney’s to blame.

You guys should really watch a lovely little piece of cinema called Six String Samurai. It’s got swordfighting, cannibals, and the Russian Army.

  24. Bruce Says:

Hey atomic, welcome to the blog and thanks for listening. You bring up an interesting point about the older cartoons not being for kids. It would be an interesting project to map animation and peoples views on it over the last century or so. The question I would be asking is when does comics in printed form make a difference in peoples attiuties in the animated media, and how does this correrspone to the artists working in the feild at the time.
