We watched the russian dvd version. I hope they haven’t cut anything from this film as it is truely cool as is.
Empire magazine apparently made reference to some insane sequence on a highway, a friend of mine was talking about it ‘cos he read the article. He reckons there was a pic of a woman carrying her own dismembered arm or sumpin’… i didn’t see it in the movie, did u?… of course, he might be mistaken.
Hey, guys, love the show, although if I take a shot every time there’s a dick joke, I am thoroughly smashed by the end. Fun!
I was really interested by your recent discussion of subversive cartoons…actually cartoons weren’t always such a kid’s medium. Check out *really* early Betty Boop cartoons or Red Hot Riding Hood as examples. There was a move in the mid-twentieth century in America to clean up movies along with everything else, so I guess that’s when The Man(tm) got the great idea to relegate animation to the kiddie realm. Or maybe Disney’s to blame.
You guys should really watch a lovely little piece of cinema called Six String Samurai. It’s got swordfighting, cannibals, and the Russian Army.
Hey atomic, welcome to the blog and thanks for listening. You bring up an interesting point about the older cartoons not being for kids. It would be an interesting project to map animation and peoples views on it over the last century or so. The question I would be asking is when does comics in printed form make a difference in peoples attiuties in the animated media, and how does this correrspone to the artists working in the feild at the time.
