Downloading the cast now…
But I have to share with you my opinion of the GOLD line from Dr Who last night. Directions in the TARDIS: “…then the third left, past the bins on the right…”
GOLD!
Already shared this with Rattray, via that old fashioned SMS thingy…
Did I mention the GOLD?
Incidentally… that was at least the 3rd time Simon Callow has played Charles Dickens. Neat.
June 6th, 2005 at 11:23 am
So can anyone spot the Doctor Who connection in this week’s podcast?
And that line was golden for more reasons than for just the Whogentsia. It takes the low-rent past of the show and says “that was there and it was meant to be there” - like the Stormtrooper head-bump snafu in ANH getting validation from Jango Fett’s head-bump in AotC.
June 6th, 2005 at 11:30 am
“swordfighting I don’t like either, because of the blood and the maiming…”
Jaysis….
I can kind of see Q-D’s point about guns simply “spitting death”, but for fuck’s sake… you guys can talk for 30 seconds about a hamster’s asshole but you don’t like on-screen violence.
Seek help.
Just don’t go to the same shrink as Rattray
June 6th, 2005 at 11:31 am
am downloading now…hoping it’ll be a little more safe for work than last weeks show! Is there any way of making the clips at the same or so level as the podcast audio? i was listening to the previous show after lunch last week and had to increase the volume to listen to the clips…not knowing of course that once they were over i would have chris and his breastial obsessions at a great volume being broadcast out of my office! hella funny but i’m not that eager to get fired….
June 6th, 2005 at 11:40 am
Xab - yes, an odd comment from a man who has a sizeable collection of edged weapons in his own home. Q-Dog… what the hell where you talking about? Please explain!
Chu - you fell for our evil trick. Moo ha ha haaaaaa! Perhaps headphones are the answer. Then I can talk about breasts right into your earhole.
June 6th, 2005 at 12:07 pm
chris - i would but i usually have my phone headset on….and thanks for the offer, but that one time is enough…my ears are bleeding….
June 6th, 2005 at 12:08 pm
The levels are alot better in this cast. Got my mixer.. it makes things better.
June 6th, 2005 at 12:47 pm
Bruce - yeah i did notice that…good to hear!
Good to hear also R-Don getting some words in - should be more of it…Chris is such a mic whore!
June 6th, 2005 at 1:51 pm
You think watching Flash is like prison sex? I don’t think I shall ever really get over coming home to find my mother watching “Flesh Gordon” with her friends.
Bruce, feel free to compile all of my posts into one entry.
File under: Talkative.
Whichever of you has the smelliest socks should keep a spare set to stick in Rattray’s mouth whenever he says “Denise Ri—schmoof!”
You may want to add the pronoun Scarlet to your list of ‘unsafe’ words.

Xabian,
The issue I have with guns, etc wasn’t clearly explained in the cast. I personally have no liking for violence, except in film. I don’t like guns and even swords. I was trying to say in the cast, but being the useless talker I am, that guns in general are not interesting things. Swords are more interesting, but the maining and stuff isn’t cool either. But put into a film with interesting sequencing and photogrpahy or character actions, this makes them very interesting. Guns as a whole are very boring, point and shoot… hit and die.. not much to it really. Equilibrium was one of the most interest ways of using a stereotypical and now very boring device that we have all seen in countless movies, tv shows and real life (ie. the news).
Basically real life violence is bad, interesting and well thoughtout violence on screen is good.
June 6th, 2005 at 4:06 pm
Goddamn!
I will seek out Equilibrium… it sounds familiar though, is it based on a novel?
Much as I love the cast — and I do, this is just constructive criticism — what the fuck is it about swords that prevents you guys from constructing grammatically correct sentences?
“swordfighting I don’t like either” instead of “I don’t like swordfighting either…”
“I don’t like guns and even swords”.
I’m not even going to explore the use of “maining”.
Q: your admission of being a “useless talker” reminds me of when I tried to tell my editor that I wasn’t comfortable going to festivals anymore, as I seemed to have developed agoraphobia… his response was, “Well, you’d better get a different job.”
Did I? No (not immediately, anyway) — and nor should you. Just learn to speak English like the Queen… with a cock in your mouth.
FLASH!
June 6th, 2005 at 4:06 pm
Whoops… sorry Q. I meant Brucey!
June 6th, 2005 at 4:23 pm
Thanks Xabian for you constructive critcism. You have found my ultimate weakness.. spelling and grammar. I failed English all through school. I try my best, but it always eludes me. I am sorry that you must read my bad spelling and grammar.. but hey, unless you want to be an editor of this great blog, you will need to put up with it.
I am alway trying to improve my speech and how I talk through the podcast. I notice different things each time, and try to fixed or change them. I figure it is good for my speech in general. I do feel “useless” or not as articulate as Q-Dog or Chris (gasp) sometimes, but this is a whole different thing for me. Those guys have had training in front of the mic, I have had training in front of a mixing desk. I am now learning more about myself and the “other” side of the desk. The cast also give me a chance to reflect, as normal day speach cannot be replayed.
Hell the whole thing is fun and a learning experience. If I come out the other end with some what better spelling and vocal skills, that cannot be half bad.
So now you have another long winded paragraph to pull apart.
June 6th, 2005 at 4:27 pm
Equilibrium’s not based on a book, but it does draw from many literary sources like 1984, Brave New World, and Farenheit 451. It even has shades of Judge Dredd. Definately check it out, Sabi.
As for spoken grammar, I’d just hazard a guess that Q-Dog’s real name is Tate. Possibly.
But seriously, nothing we say is scripted (apart from the “comedic inserts”) so it just comes out as it comes out. Forgive us if we trip over our words or our mouths don’t quite catch up with our brains from time to time.
June 6th, 2005 at 6:09 pm
hey guys - with your up and coming list - do you mark them off once you’ve reviewed them? it might be worth linking the ones that you have to the respective podcast post etc?
also, i do believe you should add the “Cutie Honey Live Action Movie” to your list…if you love comics/manga I know you’ll appreciate it…it’s definitely one of my favourites…mind you I love PGSM so it might be a gamble…at the very least I know that Chris will love Honey…lots of costume changes, the transformation music, and she spends an awful lot of time in her underwear…so if that’s not incentive enough I don’t know what is…did I mention that Segways are in there too?!
June 6th, 2005 at 6:27 pm
At the moment I am deleting titles from the list as we review them. The podcast list has the shows and titles we have revierwed. No need to double up. I’ll add Cutie Honey to the list.
June 6th, 2005 at 9:54 pm
Another cracking cast. Very funny.
Equilibrium is a cool movie just don’t examine the premise too closely as there are holes that not even taters and gravy could fill.
I see you have Monkey Dust and I Am Not An Animal on your list. Monkey Dust is a mixed bag with some decently wrong humour. I Am Not An Animal has some very funny moments and is pretty damned good throughout particularly the Scottish Monkey and hit pop song, “Don’t try and follow it, it’s gibberish”.
Hearing you mention Dino D. Reminds me to suggest you get hold of Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. There’s no connection other than a chap called Dean. Very funny parody of Stephen King style horror.
June 7th, 2005 at 1:22 am
Ebichu: Kinda fun, lost its appeal after a few eps.
Equilibrium: Crap. Seriously. A few stylish action sequences (not THAT impressive really), but it’s still an incredibly predictable story. Nigh on unbearable film.
Flash Gordon: Ughh….
And just to sound even more negative - guys, you really go on for too long about some bits…
June 7th, 2005 at 5:57 am
Henrik man… I get the feeling you are hard to please…
fellas….. as always…. coolshite, mumblings about denise richards, inuendo up to the eyeballs, nerdy references flying left right and centre. sounds like my dreams.
good stuff as always, I’m gonna try and get my girlfriend to set you guys up with a soundbite
Ebichu sounds weird and interesting… I’m gonna have to check that out….
“flash… ALIVE!??!!” gordon rules man, campy and very dated, but I remember watching this film so many times during my childhood I can’t help but love it… also starring a young richard ‘O’ brian (the weird monk guy sitting on top of the tree trunk) who hosted a popular british tv show for a long time “the crystal maze”
and I really liked equilibrium, but I think I might have a man crush on christian bale, the guys just an amazing actor, has screen presence not many other actors carry…… I’m freaking out about batman begins…. I’m going to see it on the 16th at the IMAX….. very excited about that…
kurt wimmers new movie is ‘ultraviolet’ with is a remake/based on a british tv show of the same name… there were some early reports and pics on AICN ages ago but I’m too lazy to dig them out…
lastly… chris, I tried to find a copy of that magazine article about casper van dien, but as the magazine I was reading it in was picked up by me on the tube, and subsequently left there when i got off it seems to be lost forever…. apologies… but If I ever come across anymore pics of casper wacked of his tits on coke i’ll make sure to keep hold of them

WARNING: MTV Movie Awards 2005 spoiler below!
I’m not at all hard to please, I just can’t get so super excited about some things like other seem to be able to. Ep3 is crap, and you know it, people just so badly WANT it to be good, that they convince themselves it is. I’ve read reviews of The Incredibles where they rated it a 100 out of a 100. What movie were they watching? I could have written that plot in a drunken sleep! “Oooh, pretty pictures, this movie is gooood!”
Next thing people are gonna say they liked Coyote Ugly.
I know I’ve slammed Kung-Fu Hustle and didn’t much enjoy Hitch-hiker’s Guide, but then Napoleon Dynamite won Best Movie on the MTV Movie Awards, so there you go. =)
What I have been enjoying lately is: Madagascar (CGI with Ben Stiller, Chris Rock etc), The 4400 (season 2 is ON), Dr. Who (still going strong), Bleach (anime, fansubbed currently on ep 33) and Penn & Teller’s Bullshit (3rd season now).
Oh, and a swedish review of Kung-Fu Hustle I read also mentioned they thought it was a little too brutal at times, so maybe it’s a cultural thing? Just released in Hong Kong: Kung-Fu Mahjong - the landlords from Hustle is playing mahjong. Naturally, Stephen Chow is nowhere to be found.
June 7th, 2005 at 10:24 am
It all about tastes and culture. As an example, American’s tend not to understand British humour or sarcasim. I don’t like a huge amount of French films as I find them too slow and boring. It all taste and what you are looking for in the film. The Incredibles is an example of a fairly standard plot, put into very nice packagng. The thing that made the incredibles work for me was the references and nods to all the spy and comic book movies and tv shows I watched as a kid. What you have watched and enjoyed in the past can made a big difference to what you feel is shite or good. Different countries get different things on TV or the cinema. This makes people look at things differently. If each of us in the cast was from a different country with totally different backgrounds, it would defintly made a difference in how we review films, but unles we go back in time and put Chris in some sexually repressed country, you are stuck with 4 aussies. That why we love and want feedback from you, the listeners. Feedback not only gives us more films to watch that we might miss, but also lets us discover other peoples opinions and ideas.
June 8th, 2005 at 4:30 am
Thanks for another great show. I was cracking up on the train into Boston this morning. People were looking at me like I was a nut. They’d know it was true if they found out what I was listening to.
Keep up the great work and thanks for the tips on all the cool shite, like the new Dr Who. Wouldn’t have known about it if I hadn’t heard it on your show.
June 8th, 2005 at 9:31 am
Welcome Jeff,
Thanks for the comments, it is alway gratifing when we hear of someone cracking up in a public place due to our cast. It makes it all worth while.
June 8th, 2005 at 10:45 am
Henrik - Some bits just make me too long, if you get my meaning.
Tom - I too have a man-crush on Christian Bale, and am confident enough in my own sexuality to admit this. I will also admit to a man-crush on Edward Norton, but only when he was BUILT in American History X. Looking forward to hearing a soundbite from your nordic goddess
Jeffblackmon - Our next goal is to have you weeping in public… with laughter. And maybe even make you do one of those snorty laughs with snot hanging out of your nose. Glad to hear we turned you on to Doctor Who! It’s a show that really deserves to be seen. Thanks for letting us take a ride on your pod!

to respond to Xabian… like violence in movies, enjoy even a bit of biffo or swordfighting in real life. just hate guns in real life. ugly nasty death machines. no honour. thats basically my issue, and like kurt wimmer says, gun fights suck in films generally. hence me liking equilibrium. some fantastic use of guns and violence. flash is just silly fun, i make no claims to it being genius film making, its just a campy fun little film.
episode three. not crap. we liked it, i think we were reasonable in saying it still has problems, but for my tastes they were overweighed by the lots of coolness. personal preference.
and napoleon dynamite is not quite house of the fucking dead or the crow stairway to heaven… or anything in that vein, but it was ninety minutes of my life that i would have been happier doing damn near anything else in.
i am no ashamed to say i am a bit of a low brow movie lover. i don’t always like to be challenged by the movies i watch… i sometimes just want to be entertained. some movies do, some dont. napoleon didn’t. russian ark… groundbreaking film… fucking snoozer.
its all personal preference. i have had many intellectual discussions about movies that i have both loved and hated… and thats why we do this. to promote discussion and to spread the word that there are odd unusual films out there. and its all up to you on how much you like or loathe them.
henrik, we’re glad of the different opinions man, don’t ever stop posting and ttelling us what you think. coz fuck me it would be boring if we all agreed….
and to tom, thanks for all the nice wordds too.
can’t wait to hear the promo.
the dog pops down from his soap box and goes looking ffor more cool shite to watch.

June 13th, 2005 at 4:23 pm
holy fuck. I just finished downloading the torrent of “Ebichu”, tooks DAYS to finish. Opened it up, all excited, to find it was an anime version of “Anne of Green Gables”. I kid you not.
June 13th, 2005 at 4:39 pm
bwhahahahaha,
sorry, that sounds hiliarious. Did you get the torent of the linked site?
June 13th, 2005 at 4:39 pm
Ho yeah,
Welcome Cameron, glad you could get of your arse and register…
June 13th, 2005 at 8:25 pm
yeah i got the link from your stinkin torrent site. FOUR FREAKIN EPISODES OF ANNE OF GREEN GABLES!!! I’m going to review each one on the next episode of The Movie Show, just for you!
June 13th, 2005 at 8:28 pm
hehe my bad. I just went to the animasuki torrent site again. When you click on the link for ebichu, it takes you to another page, and at the top of that page are seeds for “Akage no Anne”. Apparently, if I had paid more attention during Japanese lessons, I would have known this was “Anne Of Green Gables” and would have scrolled down the page to find “Ebichu”. Grrrr.
June 30th, 2005 at 10:32 pm
Listened to a few casts today after checking the site out from Cam’s site. Good to hear some more podcsts with Aussie accents.
Loved the show and have a few more to listen too but will get there soon.
Cam downloading Anne of green Gables is too funny though…LOL
June 30th, 2005 at 10:37 pm
Welcome to the blog Kodo,
Glad to here you like the show, thanks for listening.
Yes I found it extremely funny about Cam…
