He has a book out, Far Beyond the Sun, and he'd very much like you to purchase a copy. They don't read themselves, you know.
I would say this was the funniest podcast so far… I was listening to it while i was walking around the supermarket, got to the checkout just as Qdog told the story about LOTR being ruined for him, i laughed out loud, really loud, pretty sure the cashier thought i’d just walked out of a day release centre.
my cinema story (kind of) would be watching ‘collateral’ in a cinema cafe in thailand, not so much that people were talking(they were, but its beside the point) and the crowd (largely thai’s) bursting out laughing when people got killed, i’m not sure if they just didn’t understand it, or if the bit when mark ruffalo gets shot in the chest was sposed to be funny and i just didn’t see the humour in it.
I’m glad you liked kung-fu hustle so much, i knew you would, especially as a shared experience you really can’t beat it, i love it so much i just ordered the very geeky special edition dvd from korea, including stephen chows palm print….
mmmmm nerdy….
I bought the ‘nightwatch’ dvd off of ebay from russia about a month ago, I can highly recommend it, it reminds me a bit of ghostbusters, mostly serious, but the main hero in it is a bit of a loser, and there are odd bits of humour thrown in, but some of the effects are beautiful, nothing that couldn’t be done in an american film, but they use them creatively. it’s worth seeking out.
… also the trailer for the 2nd film ‘the daywatch’ has surfaced online, you can check it out at AICN…

I can’t make my mind up if I like the corpse bride trailer or not, i find johnny depp always watchable but burton is hit and miss for me, It’s definitely stop motion, it’s the work of henry Selcik, the same guy who did the nightmare before christmas, james and the giant peach, bits of the life aquatic, and is working on the upcoming ‘fantastic mr fox’. This trailer looks like a goths wet dream, but im not sure if it would hold my attention for an hour and a half.
league of gentlemen trailer cracked me up, i’m a big fan of the show, and the ‘i made a brown fish’ made me nearly wet myself
stuff i’ve seen recently… films and trailers…..
i watched ‘memories of murder’ last night, a brilliant cop thriller from korea, trailer here…..

Banlieue 13
I watched this at a mates house, an iffy script and some terrible direction doesn’t help this film a lot, but the action is on a par with ong-bak, starring david belle the guy who invented the art of free running or ‘parkour’ as it’s called in france, some amazing fight scenes, but the plot is taken straight from ‘escape from new york’ but the took out all the good bits, i’ve scene another film ‘yamakasi’ that also used free running, but that was garbage aswell.

i’m a massive fan of terrence malicks, so i’m really excited to see this…. it looks beautiful..

kontroll
film from hungary about metro workers, sounds like a boring premise but is apparantly amazing, i’ve been trying for a while to get hold of a dvd copy but to no avail

“Hello? I’m not dead, I’m just badly burned.”
Had me in tears.
Great show as always, guys!
Robot Chicken rules, watched it all after Bruce recommended it and I loved it! League of Gentlemen is an awesome show and the movie most probably will rock too. Save the Green Planet looks interesting so I’m… uhh… “buying” it right now.
mannnnn …. i didn’t know i had written so much…. sorry
Nar, thats cool Tom. I moderate any comments that have links in it, so they don’t turn up straight away.
Memories of Murder I found to be a solid and very moving piece of cinema. We watched it some time ago at (Cool) Shite night and I personally would recommend it as well.
Brilliant post, Tom. Maybe a good t-shirt design for Coolshite would be “I’m listening to Cool Shite on the Tube!” – just so people know when you crack up in a public place.
I liked the half of Memories of Murder I saw. I think I was in rehearsals at the time for The Golden Age.
i really enjoyed memories of mureder, it was just at that point where i was getting sick of asian stuff for a bit and it really brought me back into the fold a bit. i liked the feel of it and the stoyline really did keep me interested, especially as its a true story. or based on anyway.
yeah i have to go with tome on the whole “hour and a half of tim burton may be too much” thing
i likde nightmare before christmas, but couldn’t watch it daily. will wait and see on that one.
i hadn’t realised that nightwatch had been out so long, will look forward to that greatly.
and i am glad that my “not dead” story has made some people laugh… coz it still shits me to tears every time…., nah, i’m over it ….kinda
but that said. choose your viewing pals carefully. there are many films coing soon that i want to see in the best way… in silence. choose and perish!
i’m still laughing about it…… …… “i’m just very badly burnt”
Tell me about it, I listened to it again today and couldn’t stop laughing… if we ever do a “best of” cast.. that will definitly be in it.
In other news, some bloke named David Tennant is confirmed as the new Dr. Who.
I’m not as cut up about Eccleston leaving as I thought I would be. It’s going to be verrrrry interesting to see Rose’s reaction to the Doctor’s transformation. I can’t wait!!!
Must… stop.. thinking about it before I… UH…. urgghh.
GEEKASM!!!
Heya brucey and guys.
if you want to check out Xzibit’s cars watch mtv cribs – xzibit. shows off his house and his garage.
You should watch the adult cartoon movie called Lil Pimp.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291311/
Good to hear from you Jeza. I shall have a look see at Lil Pimp.
David Tennant has just appeared in a BBC mini series of Casanova. I didn’t see it (chances are if it’s not on some kind of disk I didn’t see it) but I’m told it was very good and a long time Who fan friend can see this guy doing a good job.
Watched Kung Fu Hustle today. I only had German subtitles available and I don’t sprechen Sie Deutsches but I doubt it lessens the impact. This just blows it’s forerunner out of the park action-wise. Not having a clue what they were saying meant I just sat and grinned. I didn’t see the violence as over the top except maybe the scene where our hero fights the beast in the casino. Of course I had no idea of the real context these actions took place in. The fight scenes are excellent and sight gags had me laughing out loud.
This definately deserves a place on the shelf alongside Shaolin Soccer.
