Doctor Who Character Building – Lego Style Minifigs

Doctor Who Character Building – Lego Style Minifigs

Character Options are the company that have been producing action figures of the Doctor Who license for quite a few years now, and many would say they’ve been doing a pretty bang-up job on it really. (I might say that they are painfully overpriced here in Aus, but thats neither here nor there.) Their 11 doctors action figure set has been the object of desire for myself for many months now and would grave my shelves in an instant if i could justify the price tag. However I may be in luck, as they are producing another 11 doctors set in the near future and one which should be significantly cheaper.

In an offshoot of their main Doctor Who line, a smaller arm of Character Options, namely “Character Building” is moving into the Doctor who game, but what makes this all the cooler, is that Character Building makes Lego style (and Lego compatible) mini figures as well as Lego style playsets and vehicles!

Official Press Release

On the 19th January 2011 BBC Worldwide announced a major new deal with Character Options’ new Construction division which saw Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time.

The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play. The Character Building Doctor Who range debuts at the London Toy Fair 2011 with the first products released in Spring 2011.

The extraordinary folks at Doctor Who Toys.net have gotten a really good look at the line and some upcoming assortments and have posted some awesome piccies of what we have to look forward to check them out on their site, or have a look at a selection here.
