Life on Mars – We got it right!
A while ago we posted a story which at the time we thought was just a little bit of fun. It was all about the US remake of the fantastic UK based TV show “Life on Mars” and in it we posited that the US remake would take the most literal interpretation of the title and have the series set on the red planet itself; Mars.
that original article can be read right HERE
It has only recently been brought to my attention however, that we were spot-on the money!
LIKE TOTALLY.
The final episode of “Life on Mars” aired on the first of April 2009 in the U.S. and anyone could have been forgiven for wondering if this was, in fact, an April Fools day joke. Unlike the final episode of the UK version where Sam’s fate is left pleasantly ambiguous and yet still based in some kind of reality, the US show took a running leap from the suspension-of-disbelief bridge and dived headlong into the raging torrent of What-The-Fuck River.
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS.
It turns out that the entire cast were actually in suspended animation in the year 2035 on their way to Mars. There had been a malfunction of the ships nanites or some such silliness and for some reason the crew were meant to believe they were in 2008, but were accidentally shunted back to 1974… or whenever it was all supposedly set. It was all a dream! WHAT A TWEEST!
Admittedly there isn’t much more to say on the subject beyond that… the series was loved by some, loathed by many and if the ratings are anything to go by, not watched by lots and lots of people. But here on (Cool) Shite, we saw the ending coming a bloody mile off, in fact we saw it a solid 9 months before it even happened.
The moral of this story then is this: Keep reading (Cool) Shite and you too will know the future, we’re down with The Force, and you can be too.

For me the UK version was by far the best. I couldn't get into the US remake, even though the cast was top notch. Ironically it was the cast that put me off. Felt like they where just rushing through the scenes. But Im a sucker for anything sci-fi with a twist, so this actually sounds like I might need to revisit… once I get through Ashes to Ashes
Holy craptackle, that's brilliant. I mean, that end is rubbish, but the fact that you picked it is fantastic.
its fucking terrifying i think. we were aiming for the dumbest most unbelievable concept possible. We were desperately trying to be funny and ended up being prescient and insightful. FOR FUCK SAKE!!!!!!
