Oh, so THAT was Bad Wolf.
And umm.. is that the next Doctor? Someone should give Chris E too much money to come back.

  2. Chris Says:

La la la la! I can’t hear you! Please keep any posts on the final ep of Doctor Who spoiler-free until after June 19!! We won’t be watching it until Tuesday night, Aussie time!

  3. Henrik Says:

I did keep it spoiler free! =) And just download it like normal people!

  4. Geoff Says:

Here in the states I have no choice but to download it. Just finished watching the last episode myself and wow, it really was great. I’m gonna miss Eccleston as the Doctor. He turned out to be one of my favorite Doctors. Tennant looks too young and um, I dunno, I’ll hold off on judging him until Christmas. But, come on Rose, please, open up that TARDIS control panel one more time to save Doctor #9. Yeah, that’d work.

  5. Bruce Says:

Welcome Geoff the the blog. We are glad to see American’s getting into the goodness that is Dr Who. I always thought it was a very British and commonwealth only type program (see my narrow point of view), but this blog and casting has made it obvious that everyone loves the Doctor.

I will miss Eccleston too as the Doctor, as he brought the fanchise to life for me where the eariler series never did.

  6. Chris Says:

Had a dream last night about the final episode.

What. Stop looking at me like that. I dream about all my obsessions!

Anyway, what happened in my dream was that a Slitheen slashed the Doctor’s throat in the TARDIS and he was lying on the floor bleeding to death. Rose came in and the POV shifted to the Doctor’s. I was looking out from the Doctor’s eyes, with Rose looking on, tears rolling down her cheeks. I was even feeling the emotions the Doctor was feeling.. a deep sadness, panic at the impending change, and then surrender to it. It was really quite an amazing dream and my feeble words can’t begin to unearth the depth of emotion I felt as this transformation occurred.

Unfortunately, the dream continued back in third-person after the regeneration and the new Doctor looked kind of dorky and younger than Rose, but I still had this overwhelming feeling that things would work out and be okay.

And then it sort of turned into the Blair Witch project, in that random way dreams go.

Oh yeah, I have to extend that deadline on spoiler-freeness to June 22. We’ll be watching it as part of our regular Cool Shite viewings tomorrow night (Tuesday). Not gonna touch it until then!

Also, the other thing about my dream I remembered was this wash of intense love the Doctor felt for Rose. It was a pure, innocent sort of love, almost cleansing.

Odd huh? Especially coming from me.

And finally, welcome Geoff! Great to hear from more Doctor Who fans!

  8. Q-Dog Says:

hey geoff mate, thanks for posting… and i too will miss the doc. chris ecclestone is the new who and i don’t want to lose him. in fact i’ll be plenty sad when he goes. buton the up side i can’t wait to see the next regeneration… hmmm. could be cool.

  9. Chris Says:

SPOILERS AHEAD… READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

They say the candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long… and the taller the flame, the longer the shadow. This was true of the 9th Doctor’s tenure. He was a mightly flame standing tall against the darkness, while generating much of that darkness himself.

There was so much packed into The Parting of the Ways that was good and emotionally taxing I’m having trouble unravelling it all. When it actually came time to watch, I wasn’t eager to see it. I just don’t want to let go of the 9th Doctor just yet! I felt slightly underwhelmed by the regeneration scene, I have to confess. But everything leading up to that point was just magic for me. I think my favourite moment out of all was seeing the Daleks outside and their headlights pulsating “EX-TER-MIN-ATE” - that was genius.

I identified with Rose’s frustration at being sent home. I was angry and understanding of the Doctor’s motivations at the same time. There was a wonderful sense of futility apparent in everything he tried to achieve, even down to the final challenge issued by the Emperor Dalek. The Doctor’s actions here tie him directly to Tom Baker’s “do I have the right?” moment from Genesis of the Daleks. This is the same man who couldn’t utterly destroy a race of sentient beings then and couldn’t do so this time around either.

This is why, even though I bear some kind of childish “you’re not my dad!” resentment towards the new Doctor (which isn’t fair as he’s had all of 20 seconds screen-time), I know that he’s the same person that he always was, from Hartnell through the decades to Eccleston, and beyond. And though the exterior has changed again, the same soul shines through new eyes to see new wondrous sights and bring light to the shadows again.

    Fantastic.

  10. Q-Dog Says:

i can’t wait to see more. so long as it continues to be written well and continues to be great Sci fi TV… i don’t care what happens.

but i must say i really enjoyed parting of the ways and i cannot argue with a single thing chris has said. it had so much emotion and yet still remained fun. and i will miss christopher ecclestone. a lot. he became my new doctor and he had the gravity and also the lightness to make me laugh and cry… i now look forward to meeting a new doctor and seeing new planets. New adventures and to seeing Rose blossom even more.

bring on more who i say. and long live doctor 9 in our memory. the torch has been passed and cannot be un passed. and so it is.

    Q dog is melancoly…
