Priest – Movie Trailer
Tokyopop is one of the western worlds largest producer of original Manga and their first foray into the world of live action translation is this post apocalyptic action-horror: Priest. Starring Paul Bettany (who has in recent years become the go-to man for supernatural action films ie: Legion and Inkheart) as the titular Priest, the film follows his quest to save members of his extended family from a clan of nasty vampires. Karl Urban steps into the role of “Black Hat” the films stereotypically moniker-ed villain with the cast rounded out by Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif and Maggie Q.
It Combines vampires, quasi-religious mythology, high concept action and semi-steam punk design into a melange of very interesting looking bits and bobs, this film does seem to be a bit Resident Evil combined with a liberal handful of Trigun and a dash of Underworld thrown in for fun. Is it a recipe for success? Check out the trailer and see for yourself!

Fail . . . fucking fail that echoes to the halls of the Judges and back. I thought I’d waded through derivative when reading Eragon, but this was a concentrated dose enough to make even Paolini vomit. Ya got he that is “The LAW!”, god’s law specifically, departing from Mega City 1. Then he takes on the burden of fighting the system for its own good, which has been done more often than I care to count. And, omg, a boot to the chest of a sword dancer which is nothing like that which was in a Batman flick of 20 years past. And srsly, did Priest dig up Constantine’s mortuary for that gimmicky, but !arcane!, weaponry? Lastly, love the obligatory crack in the “hidden” chamber that allows for the defended innocent to witness the slaughter of her defenders, and do exactly what she was told not to. And I haven’t read a shred of the source material, of which if this is actually a faithful translation, it’s just as well X(
