Legend of the Guardians – Movie Trailer

Guardians of Ga’Hoole was the original title of this film currently being helmed by one of our favourite directors Zack Snyder. It’s not called that anymore, which may come as a shock to the thousands of fans of the books of that title. Sadly the New title, Legend of the Guardians is about as painfully generic as is possible, it incorporates a couple of mythological tropes (Legends and guardians ) without actually having anything original for people to cling to. Admittedly the word Ga’Hoole may have caused problems in this day of web searching and google, but honestly at least it was memorable. That said, the film is about a bunch of warrior owls and is being made by the clever buggers who brought us Happy Feet! Oh, yeah and it looks very very pretty!

Zack’s last film, Watchmen gained him critical acclaim, but sadly not much in the way of box office success. Here’s hoping that this more family friendly fare can get him back into the black! No matter if you love or hate Snyder’s style, its hard to fault the visuals and with a big name cast of heavy hitters like Helen Mirren and Aussies like Hugo Weaving this is looking pretty good!

The imagery certainly is stunning!

The official release says:

Zack Snyder makes his animation debut with the fantasy family adventure Guardians of Ga’Hoole, based on the beloved books by Kathryn Lasky. The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father’s favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd’s jealousy has terrible consequences—causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians of Ga’Hoole—Soren’s only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.

It’s like Harry Potter without all those annoying kids!  Well not really… Let us know if you’ve read the books and if you enjoyed them? Does this look as promising to fans as it does to folks who know nothing about it?

I saw the pitch reel at GCAP 08 for this and was stunned by the animation. I then promptly forgot about it… but now seeing the trailer, there are some sequences that look the same (probably redone though).

It doesn’t excite me story wise, but animation wise it looks amazing.
