Mamoru Oshii’s Assault Girls – Movie trailer
Mamoru Oshii is a bit of a favorite around here in (Cool) Shite land. He’s been responsible for some of our most beloved films (plus a few which left us scratching our heads) and he is always going to catch our eye when he does something out of the box. This is out of the box and well and truly off the chain! There isn’t much to tell really, it looks like Oshii San might be going out to make something totally over the top and if that i the case then well done to him! It’s got a bit of Frank Herbert’ Dune in there and a lot of Anime style chicks with big guns…
In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth’s surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. Three beautiful female hunters: Gray (Meisa Kuroki), Lucifer (Rinko Kikuchi), and Colonel (Hinako Saeki) traverse the barren landscape armed with powerful assault rifles to fight a group of deadly sand-dwelling monsters called “sunakujira” (sand whales). When the the epic battle eventually seems to be coming to an end, the sparkle of muzzle flash dies down and assault ship flies overhead. Suddenly, a gigantic super mutation called “Madara Sunakujira” attacks.
Rinko Kikuchi played “Bang Bang” in The Brothers Bloom, a recent favorite of ours, suffice to say we’ll be watching out for this with attentive eyes! Released as an adjunct to the 4 part film “Kiru” (Kill) this is the feature length film which weaves in and around the giant gun-fest that was Oshii’s segment of Kiru.

I want to see now!
Very cool looking. Meisa is a cutie; hope she gets more opportunities to act.
talk about mindlessness
huh, very eeenteresting . . . between the music, cosplayish dressed chicks and crazy battles, I'm reminded a great deal of the Sabre Marionette J series. Wouldn't mind giving it a gander . . .
