Welcome to (Cool) Shite on the Tube – Version 3. I like to call it Tobor (a non-existent prize for the first person to get it).
(Cool) Shite is expanding to include even more geeky stuff. We will be putting out reviews on comics, books, toys and whatever cool genre pop culture stuff we find interesting. The film review podcast will not be changing, it will still be coming to your iPod (or other media player) on a regular basis. So lets get down to what you can do with the website.
All New Front Page
The first big change that you will see is the front page. We wanted it to be visually interesting and also be a quick way of seeing the latest articles. We did this by using the posters from films and cool artwork from other items that we reviewed. You will also notice beside some of the names of the reviews an icon to indicate whether it is an audio or video review.
New Looks Articles
We have spent a lot of time working out how to best display all the information that an article has to offer. This includes: the article, download link (for podcasts), listen now (for podcasts), links, author information, trailers, related articles and comments. We think the new layout may be big but a lot more readable and icons in the left hand side to quickly visually scan.
Related Articles
Each article that has tag information (old articles are getting updated over time) have related article links. These are based on common tags between the articles.
Author Information
Now with more written material published by a variety of authors we have an author section on each post. Click on their name to see all the articles published on the website.
Discussion & Comments
Each article will have the comments section at the bottom of the page open for 30 days. You can post a comment directly onto the article without signing up to (Cool) Shite or if you are a frequent visitor, you can create a profile. We have also introduced the feature to be emailed on submission of other comments.
Comment Avatars
If you want an avatar next to your comment, sign-up or not, we are using the Gravatar service which is free. Sign up, link an avatar to your email address and each time you post a comment with that same email address your avatar will turn up beside it. This service is great as you can use it on multiple websites (lots of blogs and forums) and change your avatar in one spot. Additional note that we are only allowing G & PG rated avatars on the site.
Trailers & Clips
(Cool) Shite is for the most part hosting all the trailers and clips on our own media service.
Search
Are you looking for something specific. We have improved the search engine for the website and it is available at the top of each page.
Browse
You can now get a list of all the articles under a few major cateogries directly from the frontpage (at the bottom).
The Forums
The forums are still alive and well, but now limited to general geeky discussion on any topic. At the moment you need to create an account separate to the (Cool) Shite blog. We are looking into merging these together in the near future.
Old Post
We are slowly going through all the old articles on the website and cleaning them up and reformating them. This is a massive job of over 1000 articles and so you may find older articles look weird.

Seen some of the new banners now. They’ve all looked awesome. so far. Yay. Will sort out an avatar when I’m back home in a week or two.
You can see all the banners in the banner slideshow which is available at on the top menu.
I will make more, it too much fun.
Also the pages are cached for 10 minutes or so. This means everyone gets the same banner during that 10 minutes. It’s to ease load on the server and your downloads.
So if you want to see them all, check out the slideshow.
In fact wasn’t Tobor a really lame remote controlled toy robot from the 70s ?, I seem to recall an add for it on the Star Wars Holiday Special bootleg DVD but I just can’t bring myself to scan through that piece of crap to check
